Bedding Essentials and Layering
Everyone loves the look (and feel!) of a layered bed but trying to figure out all of the components you need can be a challenge! I decided to put together this bedding essentials post to help you break it down!
Here’s my go to list for bedding :
1 Duvet Cover
I like them big and fluffy, but not too hot. Here’s my favorite insert that meets all of my picky blanket criteria. There are a lot of options to choose from out there, in lots of different price points. If you run really hot at night, I’d recommend a thinner more breathable option. If you run cold all the time like me it’s tempting to go with the most thermal option out there but I find that I need more breathability.
2 Euro Shams
Euro shams are the super fun big square pillow that give your bedding a polished and balanced look. Use three for king size, two for queen or full, one for twin. I stack these against the headboard and put the rest of the pillows in front of these. I also like them in front of the sleeping pillows with a bolster in front.
3 King Size Shams
If you like a more layered look, opt for both standard and king size pillows. Put the euro shams against the headboard, then the king shams, then the regular pillows, and then the lumbar or square pillows.
4 Lumbar or Square Pillows
I’m guilty of getting overly excited about pillows but I would keep this to one or two squares or one lumbar pillow.
5 Quilt, Coverlet or Throw Blanket
This is the icing on the cake. I love how the coverlet gives the bed such a finished, cozy, layered look. I like it laid across the end of the bed over the duvet, or under the duvet, with the duvet folded in thirds at the end of the bed.
6 Sheet Set
My new current obsession is linen, but this is totally a personal preference thing. Right now on my bed I currently have these.
7 Bed Skirt
Not all bed styles need this but if you need one go for clean lines.
