New Abstract Art For The Shain Gallery Abstract Invitational Show

Last night I finished framing the last two pieces for the August 12th Abstract Invitational at Shain Gallery. I will be showing six mixed media pieces, ranging from 12x36 to 48x60! Here is one that I'll be showing at this show. Somewhere along the way in this series, I realized that my brain thinks in vertical terms and not horizontal. Anytime I'm painting in a portrait orientation, the painting pours out of me, like the values and colors and lines just know where to go. With these landscape oriented pieces, a lot more push pull happens. In the end, though, all's well that ends well.

Daydream Believer - Abstract Art by Lauren Bolshakov

I'm really really happy with how this piece layered. It seems like no matter where your eye lands, there is depth. Also, there are a lot of hard edges to balance the soft ones. Up until this piece, my palette had been staying very purple and periwinkle for this series. In this one, I wanted to bring in a deep dark blue with teal and warm it up with beige and burnt umber.
